Publisher increases sales forecast

It has been a very successful few years for Capcom. So much so, that the Japanese developer/publisher has actually gone ahead and raised its revenue forecasts for the year, such is the company’s confidence that its good fortunes are set to continue into 2021.

Capcom now predicts that it will rake in somewhere in the region of ¥92 billion (roughly $890 million USD) in net sales, which is a forecast increase of 8.2% on its previous prediction of ¥85 billion (or $792 million USD). In addition, Capcom has raised its operating income forecast to ¥30.5 billion ($294 million) and its standard income to ¥30 billion ($290 million). Big bucks, I’m sure you’ll agree.

The publisher’s success has come from a string of smash hits released over the previous few years. The launch of Monster Hunter World in 2019 – now Capcom’s best-selling release ever – kicked off the party, followed by solid global sales on Devil May Cry V, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and remakes of PlayStation classics Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.

Capcom has also cited strong pre-orders for upcoming Switch release Monster Hunter Rise as a prime example as to why the company is feeling confident about its upcoming year. Other releases expected in 2021 include retro remake Ghost n’ Goblins Resurrection and, of course, Resident Evil Village. With Street Fighter VI and a possible Resident Evil 4 remake also on the horizon, it seems that Capcom will remain in the black for some time to come.

Oh, and speaking of Resident Evil Village, don’t forget that Capcom’s scheduled Resident Evil Showcase, which will broadcast today at 14:00 PT / 17:00 ET / 22:00 BST on YouTube and Twitch.
