The kountdown has begun for the release of Warner Bros. all-new Mortal Kombat movie which has just wrapped shooting in Australia. The latest live action adaptation of NetherRealm Studios’ gooey fighting game will hit the silver screen on January 15, 2021.

To mark the one-year countdown actor Ludi Lin – who plays classic MK protagonist Liu Kang – tweeted out an image from the set, which shows a slate emblazoned with the new release (the film was recently brought forward from its initially scheduled April 2021 release). Also of note, however, is the cool new take on the classic Mortal Kombat “dragon” logo, which features a spiny tail encircling the fork-tongued beastie. It’s no gingerbread cake, but it looks pretty slick.

The movie will feature iconic series characters such as Raiden, Kano, Sonya Blade, Jackson Briggs, Mileena, Shang Tsung and, of course, Sub-Zero and Scorpion. While lacking somewhat in Hollywood A-listers, Mortal Kombat has cast a host of talented stuntpersons and martial artists, and is also looking at an R-rating to allow for gore galore.

We’ll find out in just under a years time whether the latest in a long line of Mortal Kombat adaptions will be a Flawless Victory or just a box office Fatality. Mortal Kombat launches in cinemas January 15, 2021.
