[Update: The demo is now available on Steam as well.]

I’m pretty stoked to try out Oninaki next month.

Say what you will about Tokyo RPG Factory’s past few projects (I Am Setsuna, Lost Sphear), but I dig the attempt to keep the old school JRPG spirit alive, among other games like Octopath TravelerOninaki‘s premise is pretty dope too. Basically it deals with the concepts of reincarnation, death, and suicide: with the promise of heavy story beats to support those themes.

If you’re curious you can give the new demo a go, which allows players to transfer their progress over in the story mode portion. There’s also a “battle mode” gametype housed within the demo, which provides a snapshot of an “upgraded character” and the game’s job system.

You can grab the demo now on both PS4 and Switch (Oninaki is also slated for PC). It gradually rolled out last night across multiple regions and is now available pretty much everywhere. If you don’t have time to check it out, this new Japanese gameplay trailer tells you pretty much everything you need to know about its combat system.
