This fan-made trailer shows how far Final Fantasy XIV has come since its miraculous 2.0 launch

From 2.0 to 4.5

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn truly was a miracle. Born out of the ashes of the troubled 2010 1.0 edition, Square Enix basically embarked upon an apology tour and remade the game from the ground-up: even killing the previous blunder with a calamity as one last gesture of good will.

But A Realm Reborn didn’t launch just recently: the reformed MMO actually debuted all the way back in 2013 on the PC/PS3 platforms (the latter has since been axed), before arriving on PS4 in April. It’s had a long and storied history at this point, launching myriad major content patches and two full expansions, with a third on the way in just a few weeks.

When that 5.0 Shadowbringers edition does arrive, it’s important to remember everything before it. That’s just what YouTuber Muse has done, with this very brief but wonderfully edited “Road to Shadowbringers” motif. They quickly run through every major patch from the beginning and end with what’s to come.

Note if you’re currently playing through the main questline or have yet to start: there’s a few vague spoilers and appearances that you probably won’t get due to the rapid-fire nature of the clip, but there’s a chance you may want to avoid it. For the rest of you, watching it at a slower runtime (click the gear) is also an option!
