FIFA 19 boots Marvel’s Spider-Man off the top of the UK Charts

Valkyria Chronicles charges into Top Ten

In a move that may come as a shock to anyone outside of the U.K. Electronic Arts annual football release, FIFA 19 has debuted straight into the number one slot of the UK Charts, usurping the rock-solid grip held for several weeks by Sony’s web-slinging adventure, Spider-Man.

The FIFA brand is strong – consider that the last entry, FIFA 18, only left the Top Ten mere weeks ago. It should be noted however, that overall physical sales for this latest entry of the long-running sports series were down a whopping 25% on the previous year. Shadow of the Tomb Raider also suffered a huge drop in physical sales this year, despite it’s relatively high chart ranking. Very tough times on the high street…

Elsewhere in the charts, Sega’s dramatic war venture Valkyria Chronicles 4, a good showing for a strategic anime title, which is considered a niche series here in Blighty. A Bandai Namco retail promotion saw Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tekken 7 and Project Cars 2 all re-enter the Top 40.

As we enter October, it’s all getting ready to kick off. Not only do we have new entries in Assassin’s Creed, Red Dead Redemption and Soulcalibur on the horizon, but only a fool would count Spidey or, for that matter, Crash Bandicoot out for the count as the Holiday buildup begins.

Let’s get ready, ready, let’s get ready, ready, lets’s get ready to rhumble.
