Fortnite’s limited time Playground mode is ‘coming soon’

‘You built a fort, didn’t you?’

According to a message greeting Fortnite players at the start of this week, a new, limited time, playground mode will be “coming soon” to Epic Games’ mega-successful Battle Royale title and could even arrive today.

The mode will alter various in-game mechanics to allow player more time and resources to construct bigger and better battlements. Private maps will be available, along with more treasure chests and ammo drops. Instant respawn will be active, allowing for never-ending skirmish play between buddies.

The mode is basically designed to take the pressure of the Battle Royale mechanic off a little, allowing players to get really creative with their construction and fort designs. There is currently no specific launch date for the Playground mode (which will only be available in the game temporarily) but smart money is on it going live presently, perhaps even today, given the recent downtime for version 4.5.

Fortnite is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch
