Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes home award for best of gamescom

Well, this sounds familiar. Nintendo is racking up the pre-release accolades for Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It had already won Best of Show at E3 from the Game Critics Awards (and Destructoid’s Game of the Show, too). It has some new hardware for its mantle.

The gamescom 2016 awards were recently announced and, surprise surprise, Zelda took home the most coveted honor. There were plenty of worthy nominees (Final Fantasy XV, Horizon Zero Dawn, Battlefield 1, etc.) but Zelda was named the best of the best in Germany.

Many other games were also given awards, too — just none as illustrious as Zelda‘s. Here are all of the winners from gamescom 2016:

  • Best Racing Game: Forza Horizon 3 
  • Best Action Game: Battlefield 1
  • Best Simulation Game: NBA 2K17
  • Best Sports Game: Steep 
  • Best Family Game: Skylanders Imaginators 
  • Best Strategy Game: Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
  • Best Puzzle/Skill Game: Dragon Quest Builders
  • Best Social/Online Game: Gwent: The Witcher Card Game
  • Best Casual Game: Battlezone 
  • Best Multiplayer Game: Sea of Thieves 
  • Best Virtual Reality Game: Wilson’s Heart
  • Best Hardware: PlayStation VR 
  • Indie award: Little Nightmares 
  • Consumer award: Battlefield 1
