Trick-or-Treat Adventure Quest: George Lucas is spinning in his CGI grave

The guys behind I-Mockery.com like Halloween a lot. Actually, they love Halloween. Actually, actually, they’ve spent most of the last month hollowing out those vibrating ghosts, copulating with them while whispering swears and endearing petnames that are really just combinations of different breeds of cat and words like c*&t and trollop (which they’ve just informed me I don’t have to censor, unless I’m typing from within the UK).

Aside from crude October-centric fetishism though, they’ve also managed to whip up this game, Trick-or-Treat Adventure Quest. Normally we steer clear of Flash games as they’re usually the result of a third trimester, coat hanger abortion in one of EA’s darker basements, but after spending a frustratingly awesome ten minutes trying to figure out how to get out of the main character’s bedroom, I realized I had to tell people about this thing.

Normally a phrase like “frustratingly awesome” would be an oxymoron, but for those of you who grew up on Lucasarts’ SCUMM adventure games, “frustratingly awesome” is the definition of many of your earliest gaming memories. How anyone completed Loom without having their parents cheat for them is beyond me (Human To Swan Spell? More like F&%* You Swan!), but beating your head against those electronic walls were some of the best hours of my apparently lonely, depressing childhood.

I-Mockery’s ToTAQ is an homage to those old games, in the sense that if it had a reference to a three-headed monkey, George Lucas would be phoning his lawyers as I type this. If you’re sitting at home tonight wondering why you don’t have any plans, friends or the impetus to go rob children for candy, I’d most def recommend the thing.
