Sports franchises being big contributors
Everyone knows that downloadable add-ons for videogames have become a profitable trend in recent years. This year, EA’s aiming high and hopes to rake in a record amount of revenue from DLC.
According to an article on Bloomberg, EA projects that it’ll earn $1 billion from add-on content this year. Of the publisher’s stable of games, sports titles are expected to be the biggest contributors. An analyst at Longbow Research LLC stated “The margins on Madden Ultimate Team are through the roof.”
In the past year, EA has seen a 350 percent increase in revenue from Madden extra content. Those type of numbers ensure that future iterations of the sports franchises will see plenty of emphasis on Ultimate Teams.
