…both in terms of time and money

Women spend more time and money on mobile games than men, according to a recent study conducted by Yahoo subsidiary Flurry.

The mobile analytics firm collected data indicating female players make 31 percent more in-app purchases than men, and spend 35 percent more time with gaming apps. Women are also more loyal, posting a 42 percent higher week-long retention rate compared with males.

In terms of time spent with specific genres, a majority of iOS categories skew female, including endless runners, match-three, simulators, and card games. Meanwhile, men seem to be more partial to sports games, tower defense, shooters and RPGs. The data shows audiences for puzzlers, arcade games, platformers and racers do not have a strong association with gender.

Flurry asserts the information is based on a sample of successful titles obtained from “based on a sample of successful games that reach a total of 1.1 million devices on the Flurry platform.” The company also notes that while the sample is drawn from around the globe, the figures specific to US audiences weren’t much different.
