Today was a good day. Following an all-too-brief teaser for Age of Mythology: Extended Edition, more details have come out including launch timing and new features. This re-release of the beloved real-time strategy title will package the original game with its expansion The Titans and extra campaign The Golden Gift when it releases on Steam in early May. Here’s what to expect:
- Improved visuals: time of day, improved water, shadows, bump / specular maps, global lighting, anti-aliasing, and ambient occlusion.
- Steamworks: mods via Steam Workshop, multiplayer, achievements, trading cards, leagues / badges / events, and cloud saves.
- Extended features: Twitch streaming integration, treaty mode, and enhanced observer mode.
Now, much of this might be nostalgia talking — it’s been far too long — but I’m genuinely pumped to replay Age of Mythology. I adore the subject matter and it remains one of my genre favorites.
