Musical action game Savant Ascent headed to PS4

What a pleasant surprise

A title along the lines of Savant Ascent is not necessarily something I would’ve pinned as coming to PlayStation 4 — but we’ll take it. (If not you, then I sure as hell will.) Darren previously described the game as a “dubstep bullet hell brawler with elevators” and the fact that I’m reusing his wording should be proof enough that, yeah, this is an original game.

Based on the work of electronic musician Savant and developed by D-Pad Studio of Owlboy fame, Savant Ascent is another one of those musical games that incorporates tracks into the flow of gameplay. Always loved that trick, always will. The .gifs included in the PlayStation Blog announcement post or this trailer from last year should tell you if you’re into it or not.

D-Pad’s Jo-Remi Madsen wrote that the team has “vowed to add elements from future albums, and given time, we might be adding additional soundtracks, possible levels tailored to the album’s design, and new modes, abilities, and secrets.” The original PC/Mac/Linux/mobile version is a mere $1.99, by the way. An impulse buy if I’ve ever seen one.
