Nokia might be announcing its own VR hardware next week

Strap an N-Gage to your face

Virtual reality is like the bus: you wait twenty years for one, and then four of them come along at once. Typical. This time, it’s Nokia stepping into the VR ring, going up against Sony’s Morpheus, Valve and HTC’s Vive, and of course the Oculus Rift.

According to re/code and “sources familiar with [Nokia’s] plans”, Nokia is set to announce its own VR headset next week. Of course, anonymous sources are about as trustworthy as your friend’s uncle who works for Nintendo, so until we know for sure next week, take this with a grain of salt.

It seems a bit weird, seeing the last time Nokia tried to do anything substantial gaming-related was the N-Gage, and we all know how that went. We’ll just have to wait and see.
