Square Enix reveals online shooter Figure Heads

Fighting robots strike PC in 2015

Today, Square Enix unveiled a new online third-person shooter by the name of Figure Heads.

Set in a future where meteorites make the surface of the earth uninhabitable and force mankind to live underground, unmanned robots are developed to work outside the subterranean shelters.

It sounds like bored teenagers start using these things for sport at some point, battling one another in five-on-five competitive battles. And then, eventually, it blows up into a major entertainment business called “BOTgame.” Cue the kawaii anime girls and upbeat techno music — which make for a pretty bizarre juxtaposition with the drab, realistic in-game visuals.

Square Enix plans to release Figure Heads later this year on PC, where it will be free-to-play.
