Gamecock signs TimeGate’s new FPS

Gamecock seriously do need to start rounding off their name with the word “tease”. The promise of a new indie publisher with heavy left-field leanings has been getting more than a few of us more than a little excited for more than a good while now, but while the concepts and art of their slated titles are cooler than Henry Winkler’s corpse, there’s been a knuckle-whiteningly small amount of actual gameplay footage, or even details, so far.

Like so many hot but mentally unstable ex-girlfriends, they promise excitement, intrigue and all kinds of off-kilter adventures, but consistently give me just enough to keep me hanging on, after getting my hopes up oh so high. Damn you Gamecock, why must you tell me of these goodies of the future so long before they’re ready for me to play? Why?!

The latest announcement from their camp is that they’ve signed Section 8, the new PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 shooter from F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point developer TimeGate Studios. The game is aiming for a 2009 release, so understandably details are scant, but we do know it will be a large-scale FPS with a heavy stragetic element, and will give the player the option of modifying the battlefield in real time. Obviously that last part is evokative of Lucasarts’ upcoming Fracture, but we’ll just have to wait and see to find out how TimeGate does things differently.

In the meantime, check out the gallery and the trailer above. While they may contain no real gameplay hints to speak of, they are fairly reminiscent of The Chronicles Of Riddick in production design, and that always deserves bonus points in my book*.

*Seriously. Question that movie’s perfection in my presence and get ready to take it outside.
