Planets? is the voxel-based, open-world RPG you never knew you wanted

Voxels are back, baby!

Looks like the great voxel revival continues into 2014 with Planets³, a new project from Cubical Drift that has kicked off its Kickstarter campaign. It’s an ambitious-looking game that’s based around exploring a vast open world, built from billions of voxels. Players can grow and develop new skills, construct their own vehicles, and there’s dungeons and loot to be found.

It all sounds a bit overwhelming, in both scale and scope and if Planets³ is successful in its Kickstarter campaign, we won’t be seeing the first part of the game until Autumn 2015.

Right now the campaign is just shy of the $50,000 mark but still has another $250,000 to go. That’s quite a lot to raise in crowdfunding terms (unless you’re Chris Roberts) but maybe some attention through Greenlight will help
