Greg Martin, the artist who drew your childhood, passes

You may remember the covers for Sonic 2 and Little Nemo

Greg Martin, the artist who drew so many iconic box art covers during the retro era, has passed away, according to a forum post from a friend. If you’re a retro gamer you may recognize his unmistakable art from Bonk’s Adventure, Sonic the Hedgehog, Adventure Island, and many more.

Evidently he started his career at Hanna-Barbera, where he developed his talents and signature style. Every cover was done by way of an airbrush and took at least one week to complete. I, for one, feel like these covers defined the era (in a very good way), and his work will live on for years to come.

Enjoy his art in the gallery below.
