Valve registers ‘steamstatic.com’ domain

But to what end?

Who loves a mystery? It seems Valve has recently added a new domain name to their collection, “steamstatic.com” and I’m dying to know what they might have up their sleeves.

Fusible spotted the domain, which was registered through Network Solutions last month and transferred to Valve’s domain server over the weekend. Attempting to reach the domain as of this time results in a failure to connect. Hell, it might never be a thing.

But if it is a thing, what could that thing be? When I think “static” in the context of what Valve does as a company, my first thought is some kind of community/social media network, a sort of buzzing that would always exist in the background. I suppose it could be of some value to them in terms of beefing up the existing community features Steam offers. Of course, that association may just be based on my personal assessment of the value of social media as little more than white noise, but it’s the best I’ve been able to come up with.

Perhaps you have a better idea? What do you think, if anything, Valve might do with this?
