CES 2007: Quick rundown of some of the games at CES

Recommended Videos

Instead of getting into long-winded detail about the upcoming games showcased on the show floor of CES (which mostly included 360 and Games for Windows titles anyway), I thought I’d give you my quick impressions of each title I was able to spend some time with. Before you yell at me about Cooking Mama for the Wii, I was a dope and missed my appointment with Majesco. I should be seeing it at the end of the month, so fear not on that.

Hellgate: London (PC): Think Diablo 2 mixed with Guild Wars then a dash of generic FPS Doom thrown in and you have Hellgate. I don’t think the hype matches the actual quality of the game. Looks like it can get old … real fast.

Shadowrun (PC and 360): Abortion. It has some cool features … that I played 10 years ago. The 360 to PC gimmick is all it has going for it.

Halo 2 (PC): Looked more polished than the 360 version, but didn’t play as smooth. There were some choppy spots and the game was easier to play (for me) with a 360 controller.

Lair (PS3): I never got a ton of time with this one, but the 5 minutes or so I did play, it was very difficult to control with the Sixaxis and there were jaggies invading my eyeballs.

Guitar Hero 2 (360): It looked HD. You got that, right? And a kick ass guitar controller. What I want to know is what downloadable songs we’ll get and how much will they cost.

Alien Hominid (360 XBLA): Was fun, even though I had no idea what I was doing. Will it be worth a download? Meh, I’d rather play Castle Crashers.

Crysis (PC): Overhyped isn’t even a strong enough word for this one. If you’re one of five people in the world that will be able to play this, you’ll be playing nothing but a dolled up Far Cry clone. It looked pretty, that’s about it.

Crackdown (360): This game is always fun to play. It’s not just a way to get into the Halo 3 beta, believe it.

Age of Conan (PC): Unpolished and looked like the devs were trying to bite off more than they could chew. MMOs are a tough market to really do well in, and I don’t Conan has much of a chance.
