GDC: Activision showcases its new ugly man tech

This week at the Game Developers Conference, Activision shared images and a real-time video demonstration of character tech during a talk about rendering realistic people without dipping into the uncanny valley.

While not all of the individual pieces are there quite yet — technical director Jorge Jimenez himself admits that hair, teeth, and eyebrows are areas for improvement — this is admittedly impressive work. In particular, the eyes (check out further images on GameSpot) look remarkable.
