Original Killzone coming to PlayStation Network Jan 24

The original Killzone is scheduled to infiltrate the PlayStation Network on January 24, in an announcement that came out of nowhere. It will be a straight port, not a revamped HD version, and it’ll cost you $9.99.

Killzone is one of the most famous examples of dangerous pre-release hype. The PS2 exclusive was labeled a “Halo Killer” almost immediately, and while the final product was pretty good, the failure to live up to ludicrous expectations did some damage to its reputation.

Guerrilla would see similar pre-release controversy with Killzone 2, when a pre-rendered E3 trailer was presented as in-game footage. Needless to say, that didn’t go over well, but the game itself was still excellent.

I haven’t played the original since it released in 2004, but I’d love to give it another whirl. Playable characters voiced by Sean Pertwee? You bet I’m all about that.
