Oh boy, it’s the iBoy (Update)

Update: Ryan made a step by step guide on how to make the iBoy.

the mighty have fallen. Eighteen years ago, you were the king of the electronic handheld world. You were able to destroy your far superior competition compared to your inferior power (just like your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson is doing now). Now look at you. You’re just a case. To an iPod.

Actually, this isn’t just some simple gut job. Far from it actually. The creator, Ryan,  rewired the Game Boy to function perfectly with the 60 Gigabyte video iPod (any iPods will work, but the 60 GB version fits perfectly with the Game Boy shell). Every button on the Game Boy will do a specific thing for the iPod. A and B cycle through the tracks, left and right on the d-pad seeks through the tracks, up and down on the d-pad and the volume dial control the volume, start and select are both play and pause buttons, and the speakers will work with the iPod. To top it all off, you still need to turn the Game Boy to the “on” position to get the buttons to work. The indicator light even turns on! Check out the Flickr set for more pics and further explanation on how Ryan set this all up.

(Now how awesome would it be to combine the iBoy with the Gameboy belt?
