Upcoming leaked Ho-Oh Pokémon TCG Pocket card art claimed to trace fan work

But is it real?

Pokémon TCG Pocket leaks are in full swing, and one card in particular has been reportedly identified as traced artwork from a fan’s work from 2021.

The supposed leaked card, the Ho-Oh immersive rare of tomorrow’s Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion set for Pokémon TCG Pocket, appeared to be traced from artist Lanjiujiu’s work, with the artist going on social media to share their work next to the official Pokémon card design, claiming it to be a 1:1 in pose and style. Other viewers on social media have even created videos highlighting the similarities between the cards.

Destructoid has reached out to The Pokémon Company International for comment on not only the alleged leaked card design but also the traced accusations. We must also note that, until the cards are officially revealed on Aug 30, we should take the rumored card leak with a grain of salt until it is confirmed. There is every chance this card is a well-made fake instead of being an official card.

The artist behind the rumored Ho-oh immersive card, and the one being accused, is SEI NANAHARA, who has been known in the past for creating some amazing recent Pokémon cards for the physical card game. The artist has also created works for multiple other trading card games, including ONE PIECE and MTG, and has produced some of my personal favorite cards over the past few years.

What strikes me about this rumored card leak being traced is how the art closely matches what the fan created in 2021, down to the talons and wingspan. If it turns out to be a real card and Pokémon’s internal team can trace it, I hope the artist in question is contacted or acknowledged in some way. I’m unsure if Pokémon would remove or change the card from the digital platform, again, if it’s real, considering it’s one of the most immersive cards. However, we will await a hopeful response from the Pokémon team in the future.

We will update this news piece when either the card is officially confirmed or we receive a response from The Pokémon Company regarding these findings, and will update you when we can.
