E3: Rayman Legends looks like the best thing ever

Oh my glob. I need this game in my life. Rayman Origins was the best surprise of last year and Rayman Legends is only looking better, both in terms of gameplay and visuals. So vibrant, so whimsical, so damn pretty.

Also shown off in this trailer is Rayman alumnus Murfy, a froggish-looking fairy. Murphy zips around stages, controlled by being dragged around on the Wii U’s tablet controller touchscreen. We saw him used to collect strings of lums and attack certain enemies, such as floaty fire wisps, that were impeding Rayman and Globox. Also used was the Wii U’s gyroscope, which the player controlling Murphy used to rotate a deathly spike trap. Accordingly, five players will be able to play Legends on the Wii-U, with four players taking control of existing characters using Wii Remotes and one player able to use Murfy with the tablet controller.

Ubisoft also showed off a new level that looked like a rhythm game. It was more fast-paced, slightly reminiscent of Origins‘ brilliant, devilishly designed secret stage, “Land of the Livid Dead.” The quick pace went well with the hard rock score and AC/DC-evoking bell chimes. Oh, and did Globox slide in the first game on his bum, holding his feet? Because I didn’t remember him doing that, and it was adorbs.

Everything about Rayman Legends looks delightful. I cannot wait.
