Like the phoenix to which it bears a close resemblance, Moltres can feel almost invincible if you’ve not set up the right team of Pokémon to take it on. Here’s everything you need to know about Moltres and how to take it down in Pokémon GO

Moltres type and weaknesses in Pokémon GO

As a dual Fire- and Flying-type, Moltres is strong against a long list of Pokémon types, but it is weak to Electric (as a Flying-type), Water (as a Fire-type), and Rock (dual weakness). As such, your best bet here is to stock up on strong Rock-type Pokémon, who can do 256% damage against a Moltres.

Failing that, you can take along some Electric- or Water-type Pokémon who, while not quite as effective, still perform well and output 160% damage

If you want to make a dent in Moltres’ CP, you’ll need to avoid taking Pokémon of the following types:

  • Fairy
  • Fighting
  • Fire
  • Ground
  • Steel
  • Bug
  • Grass

If you’re headed into a tier 5 raid against Moltres, there are many excellent choices to include in your team. If you have any, it’s always worth taking a Shadow Pokémon instead of a non-Shadow version due to their 20% increased attack stats. However, you also need to account for their 20% decreased defense.

Here are the top 30 Pokémon to consider before taking on the Moltres challenge, along with the best moves to arm them with:
