Atlus breaks silence on Devil Survivor 2 for 3DS

Atlus hasn't spoke about Devil Survivor 2: Break Record since the dawn of time. At least that's how it feels. The studio announced the role-playing game in early 2013 and has remained pretty tight-lipped about the project ever since. Until now, that is. Devil Survivor 2: Break Record will be summoned to Japan on January 29, 2015.

Former Final Fantasy devs team with European studio on JRPG Zodiac photo
Former Final Fantasy devs team with European studio on JRPG Zodiac
by Steven Hansen

French developer Kobojo has announced a new game, Zodiac, made in collaboration with frequent Final Fantasy composer Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII), series scenario writer Kazushige Nojima (Final Fantasy VII) and sound designer Masaaki Kaneko.

The team describes the completely hand drawn turn-based RPG as, "Final Fantasy meets Valkyrie Profile and Dragon's Crown in a new online multiplayer experience."

Kobojo, which has Paris and Scotland-based studios, started as a social game developer, but has since shifted focus to developing high quality role-playing games for mobile devices. It is showing Zodiac at TGS on iOS and PlayStation Vita, but there is no lead platform for the loose 2015 release date.

CEO Mario Rizzo explained that things like platform and price model will need to be worked out on the business side. "It could be Xbox," he said, and noted that it is a Unity game so PC and console versions are all viable (it was being demoed with a controller). Cross platform compatibility, too, will be completely dependent on platform holders, as there are "no technical restrictions" on being able to play the game on your phone, then pick up the same character on your Vita or elsewhere. "Only business restrictions," Rizzo said.

Hardline 29: Destiny's lukewarm reception, first taste of Smash Bros., and the world is a vampire photo
Hardline 29: Destiny's lukewarm reception, first taste of Smash Bros., and the world is a vampire
by Jordan Devore

Hardline is back! For this week's episode, Max filled in to speak with me and Bill about Destiny and how the game fails to live up to Bungie's pedigree in some areas. Super Smash Bros., on the other hand, is just plain great, even if the 3DS demo is on the short side.

Max also became obsessed with Goat Simulator clones on the App Store and shared his idea for a potential Duke Nukem / Aliens crossover game that would be amazing, in the right hands.

For the audio-only episode, you can subscribe on iTunes and RSS or download directly.

Horseback riding and takedowns abound in this 21-minute MGSV demo
by Brittany Vincent

Previously we had a glimpse of Quiet's escapades with the full version of the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain teaser posted earlier this week. Now feast your eyes on this 21-minute gameplay demo straight from TGS 2014.

In the video, Quiet and Snake are infiltrating an outpost in what looks to be a jungle biome rather than the desert, and we finally get to see more of Quiet in action. I don't know about you, but I was waiting for an abundance of gameplay like this, and it's looking solid. Get it? I crack me up.
