Jimquisition: Reasons To Pass On Season Passes photo
Jimquisition: Reasons To Pass On Season Passes
by Jim Sterling

You were promised an episode on season passes, in the wake of Jimquisition complaining about downloadable content. There is a season for all things, and that season has come to pass.

Here is a nice little bit of shouting on why season passes are ridiculous, and why it would behoove you to pass up on the bloody things.

Killzone: Shadow Fall season pass is for co-op players

While the competitive multiplayer maps of Killzone: Shadow Fall will be free -- a great move, one that keeps things fresh but doesn't segregate the player base -- there's more DLC on the way, including a season pass. There's...

Review: Killzone: Mercenary photo
Review: Killzone: Mercenary
by Jim Sterling

This is the game I wanted a PlayStation Vita for. I have a long documented fondness for the Killzone series, and while Killzone: Liberation on the PlayStation Portable was enjoyable enough, I truly longed for a genuine first-person shooter production in the handheld space. This is what the Vita promised.

Unfortunately, that promise looked less and less savory as Killzone: Mercenary took its time and two criminal abortions -- Resistance: Burning Skies and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified -- stepped in to make FPS experiences on the Vita look like an utter joke. While I still held out hope for Mercenary, the path leading towards its release was paved in feces.

If only Mercenary had released first, it would have shown its two-bit predecessors exactly how it's done.

New releases: Scary, porcine machines photo
New releases: Scary, porcine machines
by Fraser Brown

I'm still recovering from last week's Outlast, and now we've got another bloody terrifying first-person horror title to scare our pants clean off in the form of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. I confess that reviews, such as our lovely Jim's, have cooled my excitement a bit, as The Chinese Room's love of story above all else has diminished the horrific terror found in the first game.

On top of Amnesia, that Killzone: Mercenary thingymabob is coming out; Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix is dropping, so Squarephiles and Disneyphiles have something to get excited about; Arma III is finally leaving beta and becoming a big boy game, which is splendid, because it's rad; and everything Elder Scrolls gets collected in an anthology pack. All this and more is launching this week.

Anything tickling your undercarriage?

Snapping necks in Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer photo
Snapping necks in Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer
by Jordan Devore

Hamza and resident Killzone fanatic Jim played a bit of Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer at PAX Prime 2013. This is one of those series that represents a huge gap in my gaming library and, considering this will be a launch title, I can see it being a starting point for some of you who are in a similar place and intend to pick up a PlayStation 4 in November.

Good on Guerrilla for its plans to put out free post-release DLC maps. That's swell.

Killzone: Mercenary is the gold standard of portable FPS photo
Killzone: Mercenary is the gold standard of portable FPS
by Kyle MacGregor

There's a common thread running throughout Killzone: Mercenary. From the single-player campaign to the online multiplayer, the entire experience is seamlessly tied together by one thing: Money. It's all about the next paycheck.

Reaping the spoils of war is the order of the day. Whether you're completing story missions or testing your mettle on PSN, Killzone: Mercenary turns on investing in yourself. Cash can be earned and shared throughout the first-person shooter's various gameplay modes, allowing players the opportunity to purchase new weapons and equipment from arms dealers.

This is a game about sellswords, after all. The life of a professional killer is a balancing act with steep consequences. In order to stay alive for the next big payday, you'll need the right tools for the job.

Killzone: Shadow Fall getting customizable Warzones

Killzone: Shadow Fall will introduce custom Warzones when it launches on PS4 this year. You'll be able to tweak your own rules, conditions, and match types, before sharing your created game modes online.  We got shown a brief trailer for the multiplayer, and you can view that above. As little as some folk care about Killzone, I'm all about it. Looks good!

Killzone Vita's multiplayer is poisonous and I love it

I initially scoffed towards every bit of this explanation of Killzone: Mercenary's multiplayer systems. I don't much care for multiplayer, so why should I care that offline singleplayer progress yields weapons and stats that...
