HoYoverse has announced another new character, Hugo, for the Zenless Zone Zero 1.7 update via the latest round of drip marketing on the game’s official social media.
He is one of the only two new Agents to debut in the new version, which is expected to go live on April 23, 2025. Interestingly, Hugo is also from the Mockingbird faction, which is a criminal group.
Hugo drip marketing for Zenless Zone Zero 1.7
Following Vivian’s drip marketing on March 6, 2025, HoYoverse has revealed that another Mockingbird member called Hugo will be released as a playable character in ZZZ 1.7.
Hugo’s combat Specialty and Attribute are:
- Specialty: Attack
- Attribute: Ice
As of this writing, his Rank hasn’t been confirmed, but the eventual livestream should provide more details.

Similar to previous ZZZ drip marketing posts, you can also find dialogues about the new Agent from other characters. Here’s what Lycaon has to say about the Mockingbird member:
“It is precisely because we are living in this era of disasters that I cannot acknowledge the so-called ‘justice’ he believes in. Carving out a malignant tumor forcefully with sharp claws will ultimately leave only a scar named vengeance.”
Lycaon states that he cannot acknowledge Hugo’s so-called “justice” because of the era of disasters they are living in. The former disagrees with the Mockingbird member’s way of doing things and firmly believes that forcefully doing things with violence will only birth new disasters.
Meanwhile, a top-rated comment on a news article about a collection theft incident in New Eridu reads:
“A charity event? In reality, it’s nothing more than a method for those self-righteous hypocrites to collude in secret. Criminals? The Mockingbird be considered a hero instead!”
The anonymous NPC doesn’t specifically talk about Hugo but his faction. The commenter argues that Mockingbird should be considered a hero instead of those conducting the charity events to collude in secret.
Hugo’s expected release date
While Hugo’s exact release date is currently unknown, you can expect him to debut on one of the following dates:
- Phase 1: April 23, 2025
- Phase 2: May 14, 2025
Do note that this assumes the game follows the six-week update cycle. Furthermore, Hugo is more likely to arrive in the second phase since he was announced after Vivian.
