Zen Studios breaks into the RTS genre with CastleStorm

Zen Studios continues to branch out with the announcement of CastleStorm, a strategy game looking to release on Xbox Live Arcade and “other digital platforms” this year. The concept of side-scrolling real-time strategy isn’t exactly new, but Zen has a few features that sound compelling.

I like the emphasis placed on the physics-based destruction, and that players have the option to create their own custom castle. Beyond competitive multiplayer, there’s also a co-op mode in which you and another player have to defend yourselves against an endless horde of foes.

Lastly, the fact that there’s more than one way to win (e.g., castle destruction, capturing the enemy flag, or completing the level objective) should help to keep me interested long term. I always seem to get bored with these games after a few hours; here’s hoping that’s not the case with CastleStorm.
