You’ll need about $1,500 to go all in with Oculus Rift

Still no price for the actual unit

While we’re still waiting for a final price on the retail version of the Oculus Rift, the company’s CEO Brendan Iribe said that users will need to pony up about $1,500 for both a computer that will run the device and the actual unit itself.

“We are looking at an all-in price, if you have to go out and actually need to buy a new computer and you’re going to buy the Rift … at most you should be in that $1,500 range,” Iribe said at a tech conference Wednesday.

For most already interested in Oculus Rift, this really shouldn’t be a big deal. However, if the company is attempting to make virtual reality more mainstream, then this estimated cost could prove to be quite the barrier for the general masses. As with most new tech, prices will go down, so there is hope for us plebes.
