You pretty much know exactly what you’re going to get control-wise when you play a first person shooter on the Xbox 360. Bungie’s Halo 3, for the most part, will be no different. But there’s been some debate for awhile now over just what the X button is going to do. Because, apparently, it’s going to be revolutionary.

While there are a number of theories as to what it will be (a shield, a taunt, a cure for cancer), one thing it will not be is a sprint button. Bungie’s Kevin Paul squashes the popular sprint theory in a recent message board post:

Sprinting is not in Halo 3 at all. Always, with the sprinting. Let it die.

So there you have it. Now it’s official — without sprinting, Halo 3 is going to bomb at retail. You’ve been warned, Bungie.
