Destructoid has a certain fondness for video game advertisements. We criticize them, yes, but it’s only to make them grow up strong. Remember when your dad used to hit you to make sure you didn’t go soft on him? Yeah, same idea.
This new World of Warcraft ad makes both Destructoid and your vaguely abusive father very proud. It has fantastic CG work, footage from a mid-90s cult classic and seamless integration of the subject matter. If I was teaching a course at the local community college on advertising basics, I would probably slit my wrists. Once I was resucitated and resigned myself to my fate, though, this is what I would hold up as an example of how to appeal to the right audience.
Blizzard, you have once again won my heart.
