You can now play Wimbledon on your phone while sitting at Wimbledon

Sega’s ever expanding collection of free-to-play mobile games, Sega Forever, will be getting a new entry today with the release of Virtua Tennis Challenge. Based on the 2000 Dreamcast original, Challenge was the series’ transition to mobile phones in 2012 that didn’t really make much of a splash. Now that it will be going free, more people can pretend to be tennis stars while sitting in a real tennis stadium.

Seeing as how the last major release in the Virtua Tennis series was with 2011’s Viruta Tennis 4, I’m mostly surprised that Sega hasn’t outright cancelled the series. I don’t know if this mobile version’s new, lower price will do much to spur interest, but hopefully we get to see a next-gen incarnation of the classic series. I still love tinkering around with the arcade port of 3 whenever I find a cabinet.
