You can now buy Guild Wars 2 from ArenaNet again

First-party sales of the MMO repopen

On August 30, ArenaNet ceased its sales of Guild Wars 2 and restocking of retail inventories as a measure to “ensure that players who bought the game would continue to have the best online experience possible.” We knew people were hyped for this one, but yikes. Overflow servers be damned.

“Preserving the customer experience has always been our top priority,” said ArenaNet president and co-founder Mike O’Brien. “We’re supporting Guild Wars 2 for the long run. We’ll always do what it takes to deliver the best online gaming experience for our customers, even when that means throttling sales.”

The company has since deployed new servers in North America and Europe, in addition to “nearly doubling” its base of customer support agents. Having not played recently, I can’t speak from first-hand experience, but ArenaNet is confident enough to have re-opened first-party sales of Guild Wars 2. Here’s hoping!
