Yeah, sure: Death By Cube isn’t bloody, that’s oil

So I just spent about 20 minutes playing the Square Enix-published Xbox LIVE Arcade title Death By Cube and I had to wonder — why’s this twin-stick shooter so damned bloody?

Well, here’s my answer: it’s not. According to the publisher, that’s not gore at all… it’s just red oil. The game finds a robot who has lost his memory, waking to find that his world has been overrun by evil robots. Filled with red oil that splatters like human blood.

You use the analog stick to fire off bullets, the right trigger to use a shield that can collect and deflect bullets, and the left trigger to dash to avoid and stun enemies. Success means you’ll splatter the bloo– uh, oil of your enemies across the screen.

Yeah, whatever. I’m not buying it. It’s blood, and despite the T rating, I’m not going to let my grandma play this game. It hits Xbox LIVE Arcade next week for 800 MS Points, and in addition to the single-player campaign, features online co-op and versus matches for up to eight players.
