Xenogears gets a new orchestral soundtrack release

Recommended Videos

Xenogears is my favorite game. I realize I lost credibility with about half of you by saying that, but it still holds the spot at the top of my list after all these years. It just really speaks to me.

The music in Xenogears is one of the things that speaks to me most. Yasunori Mitsuda’s score is hauntingly beautiful. It makes me want to be a better musician and composer. I remember reading somewhere that he passed out from exhaustion trying to make the best musical score for this game. I bought the soundtrack and the arranged CD, Xenogears Creid, as soon as I could. I still listen to them regularly.

There’s actually a new soundtrack release coming next year. Game Swag tells us that this Myth: The Xenogears Orchestral Album will contain selections voted on by fans, with composer Mitsuda making the final selections. It will be released on February 23 in Japan for about 3,000 yen (about $35). Square Enix has a new site up with music samples. They’re f*cking awesome. If you’re in Japan, Square Enix is taking preorders.

Between this CD, Atlus’ Catherine and the 3DS launch, February will be a great month to be in Japan!
