Achievement hunters, your time to shine is now. That wasn’t time wasted, no no, it was time well spent now that Mythic Achievements are here on Xbox.
It starts today with the Xbox Insider program, but will roll out to all users eventually. It’s basically the equivalent of PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy, awarded once you unlock and complete every Achievement a game has to offer.
Xbox calls it “one of our most player-requested features,” and the coolest part about it is that it’s retroactive. Every game you’ve completed Achievement lists for since Xbox 360 onward will unlock its Mythic automatically, so some players may have quite a few Mythics already waiting for them.
“Whether you’ve spent years chasing every achievement, or are simply proud of the games you’ve finished, Mythic Achievements recognize some of the biggest accomplishments in your Xbox history,” Xbox said today.
As part of the rollout, Xbox Live profiles now include a Gaming tab “where you can see your achievements, track your next Gamerscore milestone badge, and revisit the games you’ve completed,” the company said, and “Mythic Achievements stand out in your achievement history with a heroic frame, making it easy to see how many you’ve already earned.”
There’s also a new progress bar that’s shown at the top of every game’s Achievement list, clearly illustrating how close you are to nabbing the elusive Mythic, making it easy to see just how much grinding you have left to do on any particular Xbox title.
I’m personally not a big Achievement or Trophy hunter. I’ve sought out to finish lists in the past, but it’s not really something I actively seek out. But for those who pride themselves on their Gamerscore on Xbox Live, this is a huge day. The announcement on social media was met with glee to match the vibe, so I’ll gladly take that over the normal negativity we routinely get.
