Xbox Live turns 5, Carcassonne goes free for a limited time

Great news in Xbox Live land: all current XBL subscribers (8 million and counting says Microsoft) will have the opportunity to download the hit Xbox Live Arcade title, Carcassonne, for free! The only condition is that you must do so between 12:01 a.m. PST on Nov. 15 and 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 16, otherwise it’ll cost you the normal fee of 800 Microsoft Points.

As an added bonus, if you’ve been a subscriber to Xbox Live since 2002, you’ll receive 500 free Microsoft Points. So, by paying hundreds of dollars on Microsoft’s online service, we’re getting what amounts to $6.25 in return? Hell, it’s better than nothing.

But the Xbox Live birthday fun continues! Starting December 4, original Xbox games such as Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fable will be available for download on Xbox 360 for 1200 Microsoft Points each.

If you’ve been keeping up with the site, you should already know about the new downloadable Xbox games, and how it’d be more cost effective to buy the same games on Goozex, eBay, or from the bargain bin of a local game store. But then again, I guess the whole incentive is that you won’t have to leave your couch to switch between games, much like how XBLA works right now.
