During the later half of last week, Xbox Live Silver users noticed that they were able to utilize the multiplayer aspects of Shadowrun, Lost Planet: Colonies Edition, and Universe at War. This came as a surprise, considering that the level of service typically forbids such activities. Recently, a Microsoft representative told the folks at Shacknews that the enhanced Silver access is only effective for the above cross-platform titles until the fall update.
For a limited time, we are offering free online multiplayer on Xbox 360/Games for Windows titles that offer LIVE cross platform play. This promotion won’t last, so we encourage everyone to take advantage of it while they can.
When the new Xbox experience launches this fall all multiplayer gaming on Xbox 360 will be for Gold members only.
This all makes sense when you consider Microsoft’s Gamefest announcement that Gold access for Games for Windows Live is now free. Although, it’s unfortunate that players are restricted to a few less-than-stellar games. Have fun teleporting through walls and healing via trees while you can.
