Great concept, less-than-great execution (because free-to-play mobile)
I’m not into wrestling but, conceptually, I’m feeling WWE Immortals. It’s a fighting game from Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm and Phosphor Games that imagines real-world wrestlers in a fantastical alternate universe. Think Injustice: Gods Among Us, but with WWE personalities.
That all sounds cool until reality hits: WWE Immortals is a free-to-play game for iPhone, iPad, and Android, because of course it is. It’ll make Warner Bros. a lot of money, I’m sure of it, but think what this might have been as a bigger-budget, fully-realized console game.
