Worms Revolution to introduce class-based mechanics

Recommended Videos

Team 17 revealed information on a new class system being implemented for the upcoming Worms Reloaded, expected to hit PCs and consoles later this year. Players will be able to build their four-man teams using worms with classes including Soldier, Scout, Heavy and Scientist.

The Soldier worm is same annelid we’ve always had, while the faster Scout can cover more ground and presents a smaller target but deals and soaks less damage. The Heavy class is the polar opposite of the Scout, able to more capably hold his ground and deliver punishment but harder to maneuver into new positions. Finally, the Scientist fulfills a support role, rewarding the team with health recovery on every turn and the ability to build items.

I’m curious about the new classes, but one of the things I’ve always liked about Worms was that the worms themselves were largely interchangeable. Adding complexity to the position of units by having multiple classes to be concerned with could be a boon to strategy on one level but I can see how that may also come at a cost to some of the casual charm. Of course, I’ll still be able to have games filled with Soldiers, so I can’t see the harm either.
