Winds of change? PS3 game tops Japanese sales list

Hard to believe it has happened this early, but I suppose the Japanese really love Virtua Fighter because the 5th version of the game has made its mark as the first PlayStation 3 title to break the country’s top 10 in sales. Though it was closely trailed by a bunch of Nintendo titles, it certainly is the first really good sign for Sony since launching the monolith. Is this a sign of things to come?

Sega’s popular fighting title, a day-one release game for Europe, has stormed the charts selling just over 48,000 copies. It’s closest rival is Nintendo’s Wii Sports, selling close to 46,000 units. The rest of the top five is made up of Nintendo titles Wii Play, More Brain Age and New Super Mario Bros.
