Wii Speak demand is ‘limited’

Nintendo loves acting confident enough to admit its failures, although in the case of Wii Speak, I don’t think Nintendo could pull the wool over our eyes if it wanted to. The ill-advised microphone/speaker combo is a dud, and Nintendo has confirmed as much.

“The Wii Speak microphone is still available at limited retail locations,” Nintendo states. “Additional shipments can be made if consumer demand increases.”

A number of retailers, including Amazon and GameStop, have stopped online orders for the peripheral while other stores simply have older shipments waiting to sell out with no indication that they’ll ask Nintendo for more. Meanwhile, upcoming games are dropping support for the peripheral, with The Conduit 2 becoming the latest to instead support the Headbanger Headset.

Thus the boring, dull, pointless saga of Wii Speak reaches its final chapter. Perhaps one day Nintendo will learn that we don’t want to purchase pointless, unsupported crap in order to play maybe two games.
