Wii RPG The Last Story scans look delicious

I’ve been doing that geek heavy breathing thing ever since I first heard about Mistwalker’s new Wii RPG, The Last Story. I didn’t have much more than art and music to go on, but I felt good about what was to come.

Now, thanks to Famitsu, we’re finally getting to see a bit of the game. There’s several screenshots from the latest issue on GoNintendo now, and I’m feeling even better about the game after looking at them. Is it just me, or are these some pretty impressive screens?

They cover some of the game’s story and touch on the battle system in the text. We now know that the heroine’s name (the one in the title art) is Kanan, and the hero is named Elza. Elza lost his family when he was young and chose to work as a mercenary to make a living, working up to being a knight in the future.

In some of the battle screens, blue light comes from Elza’s arm when “Gathering” is cast, which allows him to use magic. When initiated, a counter appears over his head, and when it hits zero, the spell is cast. Enemies will focus on spell casters, though.

Again, it’s still not a lot to go on, but Mistwalker’s game is looking pretty good so far. It looks like they’re getting a lot out of this cooperative effort with Nintendo.

Between this, Xenoblade, and the recently announced Earth Seeker, it’s a pretty good time to be a Wii gamer in Japan.
