According to videogame industry analyst Michael Pachter, Wii Fit is set to eclipse Grand Theft Auto IV’s sales this year. The news comes on the heels of a report by GigaOM who predicted the same thing.
So, how does a game like Wii Fit compete in the same marketplace that GTA IV was supposed to dominate until the next millennia? It’s simple. Wii Fit’s visceral combat, realistic physics, and glorious visuals have inspired countless billions to buy the game and its accompanying peripheral, the Wii Rocket Board. While the Rocket Board allows users to time travel as well as visit the moon, it’s really the game that people are gravitating towards.
The fact that Wii Fit may actually have the ability to outsell GTA IV cements the fact that our gaming climate has changed significantly since the introduction of the Wii. Hopefully Rockstar doesn’t take this news as an indication that Grand Theft Recreational Activities needs to happen.
