Why you won’t be removing the PSP Go’s battery

Destructoid does not condone illegally obtaining videogames in any way shape or form, but since we are reporters we know about these things anyway because of our investigative prowess and need to know about all things at all times (a butterfly just landed on a flower in Mongolia, by the way). As such we know that the battery in the PSP is a game pirater’s delight and allowed plenty of modders to basically get all their games for free. This leads us to the PSP Go, where Sony is trying to correct their mistakes on the easily pirated PSP.

This means that the battery will not be removable and the firmware is even tougher to break than the PSP 3000’s. In speaking with Playstation Insider, Sony’s John Koller laid it all out when he was asked about piracy, “We’ve had a lot of success with the 3000,” he said, going on to discuss what the Go is doing to be even tougher on pirating. “You won’t be able to rip your games and play them on the system, the firmware precludes that. There’s no external battery, so there’s a number of protections put into place on the system.”

I suppose it isn’t that big a deal, but let’s all wave hello to mailing in our PSP Gos (Goes?) if we need a new battery.
