Now that we know the alleged limitations of the MCU
No Wolverine in Marvel vs. Capcom 4? That would be pretty insane, right?
I’ve been playing the little guy (fun fact about Wolverine: he’s short) since the early days of X-Men: Children of the Atom, and to see his run end now because of Fox’s grasp on the X-Men property would be a shame. Wait, maybe I’m a little to ahead of myself here.
Evidently, Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is a thing, according to Polygon. Given the popularity of the series and Marvel’s strong want to push into the gaming industry, it makes a lot of sense. Mostly because sources state that they’re going to stick to the MCU (the Marvel Cinematic Universe), so the partnership would likely mean that they both have full control over the properties without fear of expired licenses. Hence, no X-Men. Now, will we see likenesses (Idris Elba [Heimdall] in a fighting game? Yes please)? That remains to be seen. But for now, we can speculate on who we’d like to see in the next iteration if this information is correct.
While the source material is rich with characters who would make good fighters (or great reworks), I’m rooting for a Winter Soldier addition. They could do some really cool things with his sound design (like the films), and his metal arm seems like it would make for some interesting combos.
Let’s not limit ourselves to the films, either, as the TV shows are a part of the MCU as well. Seeing Daredevil or Luke Cage battle it out would be a treat, and an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character (like the new humanoid Hive) would be a cool unlock. If we’re still doing unlocks these days — who am I kidding, it’ll probably be DLC.
