NetherRealm reportedly working on a sequel to be announced soon
French site Gameblog.fr is reporting that Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm is working on a follow-up to DC fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us, likely to be announced at E3. While it kind of strikes an odd timing — the previous game came out before DC aimed for a cinematic universe to herd interest its way and this one will be coming after a laugher in Batman V Superman and perhaps a teensy-tiny inkling of superhero fatigue (I mean all you have to do is point to Civil War‘s over-$1-billion gross to impale me with my own wishful thinking).
Unless NetherRealm (and publisher WB) wants to move towards a Street Fighter V-esque “games as service” model, the conceivable way forward for the fighting game developer could be to alternate between Injustice and Mortal Kombat entries to try and prevent fatigue. A new game in either series every four years seems sustainable enough (and a reasonable enough model to maintain the veracity of this report).
So, Injustice 2. What do you need out of it? Just a few new characters you like? If so, whom? I kind of wouldn’t mind scaling back the environmental moves, though I recognize that’s a kind of big part of the game. Also add Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad Joker, because that would be funny as hell.
Also WB needs to orchestrate a PC release that isn’t a major failure.
