Where to find Iron in RuneScape Dragonwilds

We always need more iron ore.

Let’s face it: iron is one of the most helpful items in most survival games. If you play Oldschool Runescape or Runescape 3, you’ll recognize iron ore as a helpful mining and smithing level farming resource. In RuneScape Dragonwilds, it’s a crucial material for upgrading your gear.

Numerous crafting and building recipes in RuneScape Dragonwilds require iron bars. From swords and shields to workstation upgrades, you’ll need a lot of this resource to advance in the game’s main storyline. Let’s talk about where you can find iron ore in RuneScape Dragonwilds.

Iron ore location in RuneScape Dragonwilds

Iron spawns exclusively in Stormtouched Highlands, a region directly northwest of Fractured Plains. Similar to copper ore, iron appears as a brown mineral in large boulders along cliffs and mountain edges. You’ll need a Bronze Pickaxe or Rocksplosion charges to obtain some.

Throughout Stormtouched Highlands, you’ll encounter ram, sheep, the Garou, and lightning that constantly strikes down. Wearing bronze armor to mitigate the damage will help you when exploring this region. Otherwise, if you can traverse Fractured Plains without too many issues, you shouldn’t make much more trouble here.

How to smelt Iron ore in RuneScape Dragonwilds

When you mine iron nodes in Stormtouched Highlands, you’ll gain ore rather than bars. Every crafting recipe in RuneScape Dragonwilds requires smelting iron first into bars using a furnace. You can build a furnace using the following materials:

  • Stone (24)
  • Clay (8)
  • Charcoal (4)
  • Fire Rune (10)
  • Vault Shard (8)

By this point in your playthrough, you’ll likely already have most of these items or be familiar with how to find them. Stone, clay, and charcoal are early-game resources, while Vault Shards come from vaults around the map, and fire runes require Runecrafting or Goblin and Garou pouches.

You’ll need three iron ore for each bar you make, so plan ahead to ensure you have enough. Otherwise, toss your iron and charcoal into the furnace to begin smelting them into bars, unlocking a plethora of crafting recipes along the way.

How to use Iron bars in RuneScape Dragonwilds

Now that you have some iron bars on hand, it’s time to start crafting. The main use of iron bars is upgrading your gear to iron and studded armor, but there are some extra uses beyond this. Below are some examples of crafting recipes you’ll find:
