Call of Duty’s long and winding history over the past 20-plus years has had several interesting chapters, but a few titles stand out above the rest.
While many gamers long for the days of classic Modern Warfare, for my money, the best games in the franchise were the early Black Ops titles. Black Ops 1 (2010) and Black Ops 2 (2012) set the standard in different ways, and Activision knows it. That’s why both games are being ported to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
These are not remakes or remasters, but simple ports of the classic games to be playable on new hardware. This means you’ll have to pay for it yet again, unfortunately, but for many, it will be very worth it.
And for those who’ve joined the CoD ranks between then and now, this could be their first taste of the classics, whether it be multiplayer, Zombies, or both exciting campaign modes.
Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 PS5 release date

Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 are available on the PlayStation Store now as they were added to the shop on July 9. For a limited time, both games are 50 percent off for PlayStation Plus subscribers at $19.99, and are listed at $39.99 for full price.
The Season Pass for each game contains all of the post-launch DLC maps for $29.99, but are on sale at $9.89 for PS Plus at launch.
Before CoD’s full attention turns to Modern Warfare 4’s beta (in the summer) and launch (on Oct. 23), players will be able to take a trip back into the past to try out two of the best games made in the franchise.
BO1 and BO2 are easily two of my most-played CoD games from way back in the day on PS3 and Xbox 360, so I’m curious to see how they hold up after all this time. The lack of movement will likely be jarring, and I do wonder how the games will look and run on newer TVs and monitors, regardless of the fact that they’re direct ports that likely haven’t been touched.
